As America's Premier Christian Ballet Company, Ballet Magnificat! performs around the world, presenting the good news of Jesus Christ through dance, drama, and personal witness. IPC member Deborah Meis is in the Omega Company.
The Scarlet Cord depicts the lives of two foreign missionaries working underground within the former Communist Soviet Union while facing the challenge of avoiding the Secret Police and remaining undercover. Jiri Sebastian Voborsky, Artistic Director and Resident choreographer for Ballet Magnificat! describes the story as bringing to the stage “what is a reality for so many Christians around the world today who are willingly laying down their lives for the Gospel of Jesus and for the souls of the oppressed.”
About IPC Ballet:
Nearly 10 years ago, IPC Women’s Ministry decided to provide ballet classes for preschool girls who were in the nursery while their mothers participated in church activities. While Rachel (Meis) Himebook was dancing in New York, her sister Deborah Meis, still in high school, took on the role as instructor. Since that time, IPC Ballet has grown from 8 to 195 students, ages 3 to 16, from diverse backgrounds all over the Memphis area.
