I wanted to let you know about our next study in the IPC Young Adults Class entitled “As I have loved you: Learning to love as Jesus loves”. In his book Gentle and Lowly, Dane Ortland points out that there is only one place in the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John where Jesus tells us about his own heart. We learn a great deal about his teaching, his travels, his habits of prayer and worship, his miracles, and even about his followers: but in only one place does Jesus open up and speak directly about his own heart. Matthew 11:28-30 says, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” As I’ve reflected on this, I’m beginning to think to rightly understand how Jesus loved, we need to view it in light of what he tells us about his own heart. I’d love for you to help me think through this as we embark on this next series. Reach out to a friend whom you haven’t seen in a while or a new co-worker or neighbor and invite them to join us!
“As I have loved you…” begins April 18 during the Sunday school hour, 9:45-10:45 a.m. Join us for a short time of fellowship at 9:45 a.m. with announcements and teaching beginning promptly at 10:00 a.m. For those of you with young children, the nursery is back open at full capacity and no registration is required. We’ll also be announcing some upcoming fellowship opportunities in the very near future — so stay tuned!
I look forward to seeing you!
