Pastoral Associate
Rev. Mike Malone was honorably retired in September 2021. Mike continues at IPC in a part-time capacity, teaching and providing pastoral care to the Mature Adult Community.
Mike and his wife, Barb, have been married 44 years. The Malones came to Memphis in October 2014, having served churches in Virginia and Florida (1978-1985). From 1985-2014 Mike and Barb have been privileged to serve in church planting, watching God give birth to churches in Richmond, Indiana (1985-1991), Orlando, Florida (1991-2006), and Vero Beach, Florida (2006-2014). Mike served these churches as Senior Pastor for a total of 29 years. Barb has served these congregations with a wonderful mix of gifts, leading Bible studies, starting various ministries, welcoming newcomers, mentoring younger women, and befriending those in need. The Malones have three daughters, Katie Webster, husband Brent (Oakland, Ca.); Leslie Sykes, husband Brandt (Memphis); and Annie Terney, husband Dylan (Chattanooga). They have seven grandchildren, Lucy-10, Rosie-8, Sam-8, Ben-5, Luke-2, Jack-5, and Emma-2. They are thrilled to anticipate welcoming two more grandchildren, baby Sykes (December) and baby Terney (February)!
Mike also coordinates a partnership with the Diocese of Mara-Ukerewe, Africa Inland Church, Tanzania, Transforming Tanzania. Since 2003, Mike and several others have conducted a yearly pastor’s conference. Through the generous support of friends in America, 375-400 pastors and wives, plus other ministry staff, gather for a week of Bible teaching, theological and practical ministry training, and spiritual nourishment.
Through the years, other ministries have emerged. Perhaps the most significant is the completion of 129 water well projects in rural villages serving an estimated 300,000 people. Each of these wells is a local church ministry for the wider community. Donors have also contributed to the construction of a small surgical theater attached to one of the four health clinics operated by the diocese.
