REGISTER FOR BLAST!
On Wednesday nights, PreK through 5th graders participate in BLAST! (Building Lives Around Sound Truth) from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. Combining choir and catechism, BLAST! seeks to give children a firm Biblical foundation, so they grow to love the Lord with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength (Matthew 22:37).
Choir provides the unique opportunity to train in a skill they will use as Christians now and throughout eternity in heaven: worship through music (Rev. 5:13-14). Elementary music directors use well-crafted anthems, theory games, movement activities, and performance experiences — all in a positive environment — to lead your child to greater musicianship and worship leadership in praising God.
Catechism equips children to confidently interpret their experiences in the world through a Biblical framework. It can also serve as a guide to more effective Bible study. The "New City Catechism" is a 3-year program that teaches children the Trinity and core truths of Christianity in a captivating way. Each week, they participate in interactive memory games, music, and many other fun activities set in a question-and-answer format (Proverbs 22:6). For 2022-2023, we will learn questions-and-answers 1-20. "New City Catechism" booklets are available on the second floor Avon Wing. There is also an app which includes songs to assist with memorization.
One of the ways IPC children are “Building Lives Around Sound Truth” is by learning 10 great hymns of our faith during the school year.
Each month, senior kindergarteners through 5th graders receive one or two new hymns to add to their hymn ring. Hymn cards have a simple score with the first verse and a QR code on the back to access a recording of the music (CDs are also available by request).
During the choir portion of Wednesday night BLAST!, children study the hymns. But every child at IPC is encouraged to participate in the program, even if unable to attend on Wednesday nights. “Tune my heart to sing Thy grace…” hymn rings with current cards are available in the Children’s Ministry hallway or at the IPC reception desk.
